CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - Gaile Ackerman, of Cedar Falls, says she is relieved to learn her 33-year old daughter, Stacy, is safe, following the Fort Hood massacre.
Stacy Bruhardt is stationed at Fort Hood with her husband, Adam and 3-year old daughter, Coryste. Stacy was on base when the shootings occurred, but was not in the Readiness Center and was not injured.
Stacy is a 1995 graduate of Cedar Falls High School, and already has one deployment to Afghanistan. Stacy just re-enlisted in the United States Army for another 6 years.
Gaile says stacy told her the shock of what happened is just setting in for everyone in the military.
Gaile says, "Mostly, there all just shocked. They're upset that something like this could happen on the military base, where they should feel secure. It should be the safest place in the United States, and then happened, and 12 people dead is the worst thing that could have happened."
Gaile says she is grateful her daughter, Stacy, is safe, but has great sympathy for the families of the victims at Fort Hood.
