Malverne (AP)--Authorities say a man lying on railroad tracks was run over and killed by a freight train in southwest Iowa.

The Mills County sheriff's office says 20-year-old Christopher Aguirre, of Malvern, was struck Thursday night by a Burlington Northern-Santa Fe train going through the town.

Authorities say Aguirre was taken a hospital in Omaha, Neb., where he died early Friday.

The sheriff's office says investigators are trying to determine why Aguirre was on the tracks.
