10th Anniversary of the Signing of the Joint Declaration celebration

DUBUQUE (KWWL) - The 10th Anniversary of the Signing of the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification, is Sunday November 1, at 3:30 pm.  The event is sponsored by the Archdiocese of Dubuque and Wartburg Theological Seminary.  The Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification a document created by and agreed to by the Lutheran World Federation and the Catholic Church in 1999.  It's designed to create ecunemical dialogue.  

A Vespers service on Sunday, Nov. 1 will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Church at 3:30 p.m. The Order of Vespers in the Evangelical Lutheran Worship will be used. The Rev. Dr. Thomas Schattauer of Wartburg Theological Seminary will preside and Archbishop Jerome Hanus, OSB, will be the homilist.

The Archdiocesan Chorale and a choir from Wartburg Seminary will participate. A reception will follow in the church hall following the service.

A prayer service commemorating the same event is also being held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at St. Mary Church Waverly with Bishop Steven Ullestad, Northeastern Iowa Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America presiding and Archbishop Hanus as homilist.
