VINTON, Iowa (AP) - The long-awaited demolition work at the Benton Country Law Enforcement Center in Vinton has finally begun.
The Cedar River damaged the building beyond repair in last summer's flooding.
Demolition work began Monday.
Demolition crews are trying to salvage the limestone blocks from the front of the building to use on the new center. It will house a 32-bed jail, 911 dispatch center, and offices for the sheriff, deputies and investigators.
FEMA is funding the new building and is keeping it in the same spot.
