WASHINGTON, Iowa (AP) - Two Cedar Rapids women have been charged in connection with the robbery of a Washington bank.
Verkisha L. Burns has been charged with first-degree robbery for allegedly robbing West Chester Savings Bank on Monday. Katelyn M. Curtis has been charged with aiding and abetting robbery in the first degree. If convicted of the charges, both woman could face up to 25 years in prison.
According to police, witnesses said a woman matching the 20-year-old Burns' description was seen fleeing the bank with a handgun and cash. A short time later, police stopped a car north of Washington that matched witness descriptions.
Officials say police found a loaded handgun and cash believed to have been taken during the robbery inside the car.
Police say more arrests are possible as the investigation continues.
