BUTLER COUNTY (KWWL) -- District Court Judge Stephen P. Carroll has ruled that Mark Becker is competent to stand trial in the June 24 murder of Aplington-Parkersburg Coach Ed Thomas.

Judge Carroll says Mark Becker understands the proceedings against him, can assist effectively in his own defense and is competent to stand trial on the murder charge.

A trial date has yet to be set.
