printing pressHOPKINTON (KWWL) - An annual celebration for Delaware County History brought an old campus to life.
The Lenox Collegiate School was closed in 1944, but Saturday the campus along Highway 38 was far from deserted. Classic cars, tractors, and floats lined the campus mall to show off some modern day history.
The annual Yester-Years celebration has gone on for the past 8 years, but this year also celebrated 2 anniversaries: the Delaware County Historical Society 50th Anniversary and the school's150th Anniversary.
Guests could also observe the wood carving, spinning, and even a functioning print press.
Festival organizer Randy Kreutner gave 2 reasons why people should stop out.
"Its got a lot of Delaware County history, but I think the other thing is that it was an institute of higher learning. It got started back in 1859 when Hopkinton was only 6 years old a the time," Kreutner said. "The idea of a higher education was kind of a novel thing really."
During its prime, the school was known for its agriculture, teaching, and science programs.
The Lenox College is now a museum, open Tuesday through Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. until September 30.
