Leading the effort last Saturday was Upper Iowa University Assistant Professor of Geosciences Kata McCarville.
McCarville said Friday among the items recovered from the Turkey River were glass and plastic that were recycled, as well as more than 500 deposit beverage containers. She said a fishing pole and lantern were also found along the river and can be claimed by contacting her to identify them.
McCarville says efforts this year to clean waterways in Fayette County required more than 200 hours of volunteer services and resulted in the removal of more than three tons of junk.
McCarville says water quality in the springs and waterways of Fayette County could be improved through continued cleanup efforts.
