Jailer who impersonated officer pleads guilty

Associated Press - September 11, 2009 7:34 AM ET

VINTON, Iowa (AP) - A civilian jailer who pretended to be a sheriff's deputy has pleaded guilty to impersonating an officer and faces a sentencing hearing in October.

Vinton police say 59-year-old William Reese, who was on duty as a jailer in Benton County, tried to make a traffic stop in a Benton County Sheriff's Office patrol car in May.

Prosecutors dropped two charges of disorderly conduct because of Reese's plea deal.

His sentencing is set for Oct. 2.
