Fire consumes Marion County house

Associated Press - September 8, 2009 7:34 AM ET

PLEASANTVILLE, Iowa (AP) - State fire investigators are looking into a garage fire that destroyed a home in Marion County.

The remains of the Pleasantville house were charred after firefighters spent about 40 minutes putting out the blaze.

Three people inside the house managed to escape, and no one was injured early Monday.

Pleasantville Fire Chief Paul Gasparovich says the fire began in the attached garage. A resident says she heard a sound like a gunshot just before she noticed the fire.

Gasparovich declined to say whether the fire appeared suspicious.

The State Fire Marshal's Office will investigate the blaze.

Pleasantville is about 20 miles southeast of Des Moines.
