
MARION (KWWL) - Scott McCarthy, 14, of Marion died Saturday as a result of a golf cart crash.
According to the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office, there were called to a single-vehicle golf cart crash near Brooklyn. Investigators said that a 14-year-old from Marion had lost control of the golf cart he was driving causing it to overturn, ejecting him and three juvenile passengers.
The teen was transported by East Poweshiek Ambulance to Grinnell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. A passenger was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in St. Mark's Lutheran Faith and Life Center in Marion. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, and at the church after 10 AM on Thursday.
Scott was born July 21, 1995, in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of St. Mark's Faith and Life Center which was very much a part of his life, and was to be confirmed there on September 5, 2009. Scott was a organ and tissue donor. He enjoyed basketball, soccer, wrestling, bowling, mini-golf, four-wheeling, and spending time at Holiday Lake with his family and friends.
