NEW HAMPTON, Iowa (AP) - A Nashua man has been sentenced to life in prison for the beating death of his 12-day-old daughter.
Randy Blanchard was sentenced Tuesday in Chickasaw County District Court. A judge found him guilty of first-degree murder and child endangerment following a trial last month.
Prosecutors say Blanchard shook his daughter, Aliya, and slammed her on a table while feeding her in February 2008. She was taken to a hospital and died several days later.
During Tuesday's hearing, Judge Richard Stochl and Blanchard shared an exchange over Blanchard's claims the judge is biased.
Stochl responded by telling Blanchard, "I am biased against people who take the lives of children."
